Afterwards, have lunch at any of the local tavernas found on every beach. Apollonia, the capital, has lost nothing of its traditional charm. There are many shops selling local jewelry and pottery, as well as clothing and home furnishings. The town also offers restaurants serving regional or broadly Mediterranean food and a great nightlife with a full range of cafés, bars and clubs. Kastro with its breathtaking views and Artemonas with its beautiful traditional architecture are two villages well worth visiting. The monasteries of Profitis Ilias and Aghios Simeon offer a panoramic view of the whole island from up high. There are numerous old paths that set out from this area towards the hills or the sea for those who love trekking.
