Santa María is a neighbourhood in the historic centre of the city of Cádiz, located in the northern part of the city, being the southernmost of the neighbourhoods in the historic centre.
It extends from the Puertas de Tierra to the Plaza de San Juan de Dios and the Pópulo neighbourhood. It is one of the oldest quarters of the city, emerging in the 15th century, when the medieval town began to overflow.
It owes its name to the chapel of Santa María, which later became the convent of Santa María. You can walk around the historic centre as well as use public transport.
